The Sindh government distributed 300 pink electric scooters to women as part of a mobility initiative launched on International Women’s Day, aimed at helping female students and working professionals travel more independently.
The scooters were handed over during a ceremony in Karachi, where provincial officials highlighted the government’s plan to improve transportation access for women while promoting electric mobility.

Speaking at the event, Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, congratulated women on International Women’s Day and emphasized the importance of empowering women in society.
According to details shared by the Sindh Information Department on X, the minister said women had long faced neglect but gained greater opportunities through the political leadership of Benazir Bhutto, who he said played a key role in strengthening women’s participation in public life.

Five Million Scooters Planned for Women
During the ceremony, the minister also announced an ambitious plan to seriously expand the initiative.
He said the Sindh government aims to provide up to five million scooters to women in the future as part of a large-scale mobility program.
Key requirements for applicants include:
- A permanent driving licence
- Proof of education or employment
- Participation in free driving training provided by the government
Officials said the program will not require recommendations or special approvals, aiming to keep the process accessible for women across the province.
