5,000-year-old earthenware toy chariot – Maybe the world’s oldest toy car
The chariot in mentioning was discovered in Turkey. Archaeologists believe that this little toy chariot may be the oldest toy car in the world. The toy was found in the ancient city of Sogmatar – located in south-east Turkey – during an excavation. The ancient city itself is believed to be the new home of Moses when he ran away from the pharaoh.
The findings from the city of Sogmatar are a great reference for the today’s world to learn how the ancient civilizations before us lived. A number of tombs were uncovered in the area recently, providing a new motivation for the archaeologists to stick around. 45 tombs in total have been opened. These 45 include the child’s grave from which the toy car was extracted and three others that are believed to have been untouched since the Roman era.
A baby’s rattle was found in the city of Kultepe in the central Anatolian province, Keyseri, in 2014. The object was deemed as the oldest toy in the world and was estimated to be 4,000 years old. Due to this 5,000-year-old car, and several other significant discoveries, Sogmatar has made its place among the most important excavations in the area, says Celal Uludag – Sogmatar Excavation Head and Manager at Sanliurfa Museum. Uludag also told that the excavation in Sogmatar continues. He also mentioned that the object found is going to be exhibited in the Sanliurfa Archaeology Museum, the biggest museum complex in the country.
