ALERT – No M-Tag, No Travel on Motorway

In a latest development, National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have made M-Tag essential to travel on motorways. According to a tweet by the police, “M-Tag is now mandatory on motorways.”

The authority further said that it is ready to implement Lahore High Court (LHC) orders with the cooperation of citizens. “As per a decision by LHC, only M-Tag travellers will be allowed on the motorways from December 7th, 2021,” the police added.

Furthermore, the decision has been taken to reduce the long lines of cars on toll plazas. It will also help reduce air pollution due to these traffic blockades. 

How to Get an M-Tag?

The process of getting an M-Tag for your car is quite easy. You just have to visit the Toll Plaza booth on any motorway and visit the M-Tag issuance booth. 

However, you must have your CNIC, Driving License and Vehicle Registration Book. Without these documents, police will not issue M-Tag for your vehicle. The good news is that there are no charges for getting a new M-Tag sticker for your car. 

Where to put the Sticker? 

You will have to put the M-Tag Registration Sticker on the top corner of your car’s windscreen, preferably at the top right corner. It is pertinent to mention that you must put the Sticker inside the windscreen, not outside. 

Checking M-Tag Sticker Status

To check the status of your car’s Sticker, send an SMS with “MTAG <Space> CNIC Number” to 9909. 

How to Recharge the Sticker? 

There are multiple ways to recharge your Sticker, including:

You can get the scratch card of Rs200 and Rs500 from the entry and exit points of the motorways. The cards are also available at the resting areas on the motorways. 

Checking the Balance 

You can check the balance by sending SMS to “Balance <Space> MTAG ID to 9909.
