All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association on Strike, oil Supply Crises to Emerge

2 103

All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association has gone on strike across the country after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) didn’t respond to the request made by the association. We previously reported that this might happen if the OGRA and Oil Association could not reach a conclusive deal. The Oil Tankers Owners Associations demanded that authorities should increase the transportation freight rate and also demanded a ban on oil tankers that transport oil up to 60,000 liters. They argued that all oil tankers should only be allowed to carry just 36,000 liters during transportation.

With the strike in effect, the movement of around 20,000 oil tankers around the country would be stopped, leading to the oil shortage in the country. And people will be the one to suffer in this spat between OGRA and Tankers Association.

This is not the first time Oil Tankers Association had gone to strike, previously in July The Tankers Association with Oil Tankers Contractor Owners Association given strike call which continued for three straight days. The strike disrupted the oil supply in the whole country. The Associations went to strike due to the new tanker fitness regulation placed by OGRS and fines by the Motorway Police.

The fitness regulation was placed after the tragic incident of Ahmedpur Sharqia where 200 people died after trying to collect oil from an overturned oil tanker.

In the end, I would like to say that both the parties OGRA and All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association should talk things through as it will benefit not only the concerned parties but also the general public as well.
