Audi A6 e-tron Secures Prestigious 5-Star NHTSA Safety Rating

123

Audi’s transition into the electric era continues to prove that cutting-edge design does not require a compromise on passenger security. The highly anticipated Audi A6 e-tron has officially earned the highest possible five-star overall crash rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This latest accolade solidifies the electric sedan as one of the safest vehicles on the global market.

Acing the Stringent U.S. NCAP Tests

The U.S. New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) evaluates vehicles across highly standardized and rigorous crash scenarios. With this five-star result, the Audi A6 e-tron ranks among the safest vehicles evaluated since the NHTSA adopted its significantly more stringent testing methodology in 2012.

The vehicle delivered exceptional results across all major testing categories:

  • Side-Impact Performance: The A6 e-tron recorded an incredibly low injury risk of just 2.0%. This is particularly noteworthy as side-impact collisions carry some of the highest injury risks worldwide.
  • Frontal-Impact Performance: The EV demonstrated strong structural integrity, posting an 8.1% frontal-impact injury risk.
  • Rollover Risk: The low-slung, heavy battery placement helped the vehicle achieve a minimal 6.9% rollover risk.

A Global Trifecta of Safety Awards

The NHTSA five-star rating is the final jewel in a global trifecta of safety accolades for the A6 e-tron.

Earlier in April 2026, the model was awarded the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Prior to that, in 2025, the vehicle had already secured a flawless five-star rating in the Euro NCAP tests. Earning top marks across these three major consumer safety programs proves the vehicle’s structural versatility, as Euro NCAP and IIHS heavily evaluate active driver-assistance systems and pedestrian protection alongside raw crash data.

Setting the Standard for Premium EVs

The A6 e-tron joins a growing lineup of recent Audi models—including the Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, and A3, that have posted five-star NCAP results. Audi continues to utilize data from these real-world consumer safety programs to feed directly into their virtual crash testing and ongoing model development.
