Aventador Successor To Have Most Powerful Engine in Lamborghini’s History

Lamborghini is one of the brands we dreamed about, and posters of their models went on our walls like Diablo, Countach, Miura, Murcielago, and more recently, Huracan and Aventador. The modern Lamborghini brand has been a fully owned subsidiary of Audi since 1998 and operates under the parent company VW. The brand was going through rough times when it went under Audi’s control, but the reorganization of the Lamborghini and the launch of Diablo and Murcielago started clicking the success buttons.

Aventador Launch

In 2011, Lamborghini launched the famous Aventador, and it stunned the automotive world and soon became the most-wanted model. It can be called a spiritual successor of Murceligo and a game-changer. The car’s exterior and interior, ultra high-end road performance, driving dynamics, and engineering soon became a benchmark. Although the current Aventador was launched almost 12 years ago, it is still very relevant.

After 11 years in Coupe or Roadster body-style production with multiple variants, special edition models, and various technical/ mechanical upgrades, Aventador production ceased in September 2022. Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimate Roadster was the last model leaving the assembly line. Lamborghini produced 11,465 units of the iconic flagship Aventador.

Although Aventador was discontinued from the factory, Lamborghini was working on a replacement model for a couple of years. Speculation & rumors got a full stop over a year ago when camouflaged units were seen testing on public roads in Europe.

Since a few weeks ago, Lamborghini has started a teaser campaign for the upcoming model and technical details. We should remember that, historically, Lamborghini replacement models came with a new name, and we are unsure if the upcoming model will carry the Aventador badge or something else. As of now, Lamborghini is calling it “LB744”.

Exterior and Interior

Earlier this year, patent images went viral for the new model. We have some idea regarding the exterior design if we correlate these with the camouflaged vehicle seen in public. Like in typical Lamborghini traditional design language using hexagonal elements , the wedged shaped front continues but with a more aggressive appearance.

We can see a new front bumper with newly designed air ducts while you will also notice an angular hood. There are new slimmer headlights although the “Y Pattern ” can be seen like in the current Aventador and we an expect that to be DRLs.

The side profile is again a typical Lamborghini fashion, and we will most probably witness the scissor doors and new engine air intake. Like the front, the rear is also unique, especially the placement of the exhaust, which is now much higher. The taillights are under camo & hidden, but we can expect a total redesign. Like the Aventador, the new model will be based on modified and updated low-weight carbon fiber composite monocoque connecting front and rear with aluminum sub-frames which will also provide the foundation for the suspension, engine, and transmission.

Overall, the new model is evolutionary and seems lower and wider, using most of Aventador’s proportions. We can expect an all-new interior and high-definition floating curved display as an instrument panel.

Mechanicals

While we can only visualize the exterior and interior, Lamborghini officially released the technical details a few days ago. Internal combustion engines are already an endangered species in the era of fully electric vehicles, but enthusiasts can rejoice because Lamborghini is keeping the naturally aspirated V12 intact, although with some electrification.

As per Lamborghini, the new model will be equipped with the famous mid-mounted 6.5L V12 as seen in Aventador, but this is a completely reworked and upgraded engine and a new benchmark in terms of performance. As mentioned in the title of this blog, this will be the first vehicle in brand history to be an electrified super sports car.

Basically, it is a Plug-In Hybrid, and Lamborghini is calling it HPEV /High-Performance Electrified Vehicle. The entire setup is very complicated and sophisticated. There will be three electric motors, two in front, one on each front wheel, while the third one will be on the rear & incorporated into a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

There will be a 1550mm long, 301mm high, and 240mm wide lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3.8 kWh housed in the central tunnel between the driver and passenger seats. The battery coordinates with the front, rear, and integrated charging unit. The battery can be charged using a domestic household power socket and fully charged in 30 minutes using a 7kW charger. The battery is also recharged via regenerative braking or from the engine within 6 minutes. Lamborghini didn’t share details on the full electric range, but we should expect limited coverage.

As for performance numbers, the new high revving limit is 9500rpm, V12 on its own will be producing 814hp and 725Nm of torque at 9250RPM. This makes this engine the most powerful in the brand’s history, and approx. 44hp more than the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimate, the last version of the model. It is interesting that the new engine is also 17kg less in weight than the previous version.

It is rotated 180 degrees on its axis in the new layout for better weight distribution and the addition of a new lightweight and compact gearbox and electric motor. The intake ducts to the cylinders have been re-engineered for optimal airflow to combustion, while the compression ratio has been increased to 12.6:1 from 11.8:1, while the exhaust is also improved and redesigned.

Each electric motor produces 148hp, while the front makes torque of 350NM each, and the rear one makes 150Nm. Like Aventador, the new model will be an AWD, but this time with no mechanical linkage between the rear and front axles, and in fact, it will be an electrified all-wheel drive with assistance from motors on the front wheels. The V12 engine will send power to the rear wheels only. It is also pertinent to mention that, in EV mode, the model will be front-wheel drive and will get assistance from the rear motor if required for traction. Additionally, the reverse maneuver will also be via electric motors only. Lamborghini has not released the official exact total system HP [ engine +motors], but it is excepted to be between 1000 to 1050HP.

Launch

Although the new model’s name is yet to be announced, Lamborghini has already started sharing details via teasers of LB744. 2023 is the 60-year anniversary of the brand, and Lamborghini will be celebrating it with the launch of the new model. We can expect an official release within the next few months. As of pricing, we can easily guess that it will be around half a million dollars before any options.
