Karachi’s Azeempura Flyover in Shah Faisal Colony is expected to open for traffic on June 15, 2026, as work on the project enters its final stage.
The Rs. 1.47 billion project was launched by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation earlier this year to ease one of the busiest traffic choke points in the city’s eastern corridor. The flyover is being built at the Azeempura intersection, a key junction used by commuters traveling between Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, Malir, Shahrah-e-Bhutto, and the airport side of the city.
Current Work Progress
According to the latest progress update, the main structure of the Azeempura Flyover has been completed, while road carpeting and expansion-joint work are now underway. This indicates that the project has moved from major structural construction to finishing work before opening.
Earlier, KMC had also announced temporary traffic closures around Shah Faisal Town Road and Shahrah-e-Bhutto to speed up construction work. Such closures caused short-term inconvenience for commuters, but they also suggested that the project had entered a more critical construction phase.
What the Project Includes
The Azeempura Flyover is not limited to the bridge structure alone. The wider project includes road rehabilitation, road widening, drainage works, improvements to rainwater disposal, and new street lighting along the corridor.
The flyover itself is planned to be around 700 meters long. A 625-meter dual-track road will also connect Shahrah-e-Bhutto with the Shah Faisal roundabout. The project further includes the reconstruction of the roundabout, improvements to adjoining roads and parking areas, and the installation of 93 streetlight poles with 157 LED lights.
Why It Matters for Karachi Commuters
For daily motorists, this project matters because Azeempura has long been a signal-heavy bottleneck. Traffic from residential areas, industrial zones, and airport-bound routes often converges at the same point, forcing vehicles to wait through multiple signal cycles.
Once opened, the flyover should allow smoother traffic movement between Shah Faisal Colony and Shahrah-e-Bhutto. It is also expected to help commuters from Korangi and nearby areas, especially those traveling toward Shahrah-e-Faisal, Malir Halt, and the airport corridor.
For Karachi, this is not just another concrete structure. It is part of a wider push to remove pressure from congested internal roads and improve east-west connectivity. The real test, however, will come after opening: traffic discipline, road maintenance, drainage performance in rain, and the proper management of surrounding roads.

The Azeempura Flyover is currently expected to open for traffic on June 15, 2026. If the deadline is met, the project will be completed within the 100-day target announced at launch.
For thousands of motorists who use the Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, and Malir routes daily, the opening could bring meaningful relief. But like most Karachi infrastructure projects, its long-term success will depend less on the ribbon-cutting and more on maintenance, traffic management, and keeping encroachments away from the improved corridor.
