BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz in hot water

The campaign to clean the environment is gaining popularity day by day and countries around the globe have started making new laws to curb the factors which might cause pollution. China, Germany, India, and many other countries have announced to change the modes from where they generate electricity—in simple terms; they are moving from fossil fuels to renewable energy to produce electricity. Aside from fossil fuels which are polluting the environment, the other significant factor is the emission from cars. And countries are taking keen note of this fact and are scanning the cars under a microscope to check if they are emitting the emission in excess or not. And now three big automakers BMW, Porsche and Mercedes are in hot waters.

According to news media outlet, South Korean Government plans to befall fines on BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes over the breach of emission rules as told by the ministry of environment. All the automakers will face a fine of $63million in total.

The most significant share of the fine will be imposed on BMW, 60.8 billion won ($54 million).  Ministry of Environment of Korea told in a press release that BMW falsified the documents on emission test results. And moreover, the company also didn’t approach to the ministry for obtaining permission and approval of for changes in emission-control components before the company shipped its vehicles in the local market.

Moving onward, the fine which will be imposed on Porsche and Mercedes will be 1.7 billion won and 7.8 billion won. BMW’s spokesperson said that the company didn’t conceal any information in this matter and cooperated with the authorities with utmost faithfulness.

This is not the first time automaker have come under the radar of government, one cannot forget the emission scandal of Volkswagen, which created a ripple in the entire auto-making industry and tarnished the image of the German automaker. In VW’s case, the company paid $4.3 billion in penalties.
