Today we’re back with the owner’s review of the 2022 Honda Civic Oriel. In this review, the owner shares his experience with the newly launched Civic and how he finds the new Civic compared to the previous generations. This is the 11th generation Civic which was launched in 3 variants, this particular car is the mid-spec oriel variant. It comes with a 1.5 liter turbo engine which produces 127hp and 180Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a M CVT transmission while a LL CVT is offered in the RS variant with increased power.

Purchase Decision

The owner has kept numerous Civic generations and following his love with Honda, he decided to book the car when the pre-bookings were started. He did not consider any other options and decided to buy the car unaware of the features, and even the look. The owner did not opt for the RS as he did not require extra performance. He bought the car at the initial invoice of Rs. 5.4 million.

Salient Features

Although this is the mid-spec variant, It comes with a host of features which include leather seats, a 9 inch floating infotainment system, push start, a semi-digital instrument cluster, steering controls, sunroof, a digital climate control, cruise control etc. Safety features include 2 airbags, ABS brakes along with EBD and VSC, although Honda sensing is exclusive to the RS variant.

Comfort

The owner seems to be very impressed with the comfort of the new Civic.  “The drive is very smooth and comfortable”, he stated. This is also the reason why the owner prefers the Civic over Corolla as he thinks that the drive is way smoother and relaxing on longer journeys.” The seats are very spacious with no signs of fatigue”, he added.

Acceleration

The detuned engine of the oriel faced mixed opinions among many regarding its power. As per the owner, the power of the car is good, acceleration is optimal and the car reaches 150 to 160 km/h without any problems. Although the performance is less compared to the RS which has 176 hp.

Fuel Average

According to the instrument cluster, the car showed 12km/l but the owner gets a realistic fuel average of around 10.5 km/l within city. On a longer stretch, he gets around 12 to 12.5 km/l which he thinks is not bad considering it has a turbocharged engine.

Storage Spaces

The car has sufficient storage spaces in the interior with decent sized door compartments which can easily hold a big-sized bottle. It also has cup holders in the front and rear, a large glove box and storage under the center armrest. Boot space is impressive too with 409 liters of capacity which can accommodate 2 large-sized suitcases.

Handling

Civics are known for their road grip and handling and the new generation does not disappoint either. It is wider than before, which of course helps the stability on high speeds. According to the owner, the handling is amazing with no signs of body roll or vagueness. “ I’ve driven it on high speeds without feeling the need to put both hands on the steering”, he stated.

Missing Features

The owner misses some features in the car like a retractable infotainment screen as it causes hindrance in the driver’s view. Another missing feature are electric seats which he thinks would have added to the comfort. The owner also dislikes the quality of the dome light buttons which he thinks are flimsy and should have been digitally operated.
