This BYD SUV Can Run on Three Wheels, May Soon Launch in Pakistan

The BYD Leopard B8, a PHEV SUV, is gaining attention on social media for a suspension trick that looks almost unreal. It can lift one tire off the ground without using a jack and can run on three wheels.

The SUV, sold in China as the Fangchengbao Bao 8 and internationally as the Denza B8, uses BYD’s YunNian-P Ultra/DiSus-P hydraulic suspension system, which makes this one-wheel lift possible.

This electronically controlled setup can raise, lower, stiffen, and balance each wheel independently, depending on the terrain.

The Viral Three-Wheel Demo

A viral video by MotorBeam shows the Denza B8 lifting the front right tire into the air while the other three remain planted:

How Does It Work?

According to CarNewsChina, unlike conventional suspensions, in which all four wheels move together, BYD’s YunNian-P Ultra/DiSus-P hydraulic suspension system controls each corner separately.

It can push one side up, lower another, or stabilize the cabin on uneven surfaces.

BYD’s DiSus explanation states that the system is designed to improve stability, reduce rollover risk, and protect the vehicle on rough roads, in mud, snow, and water crossings. It uses hydraulic actuators, sensors, electronic control units, and suspension software to manage body movement.

In the B8, the more advanced version adds independent wheel control. When the system detects a need to lift or balance the vehicle, hydraulic pressure is sent to the required suspension corner. That is how one wheel can rise while the other three remain on the ground.

Is It Useful in Real Life?

Yes, but with limits.

The one-wheel lift primarily demonstrates suspension strength and control. In real off-roading, the bigger benefit is the body control.

A system like this can help on uneven tracks, steep approach angles, broken surfaces, deep ruts, and situations where one wheel loses contact.

It may also make changing tires easier under controlled conditions.

Question: What Happens If Weight Is Put on the Lifted Wheel?

The system uses LiDAR and sensors (from the Huawei ADS 3.0 suite) to pre-scan the road.

If you added weight, the hydraulic actuators would increase pressure to compensate.

However, because the car is a body-on-frame vehicle weighing over 3,300 kg, the mechanical limit is governed by the center of gravity. If the weight shifted too far toward the missing corner, physics would eventually override the hydraulics.

Denza B8, May Soon Launch in Pakistan

This technology also matters because the Denza B8 may not remain a China-only talking point for long.

A few days ago, PakWheels reported that BYD has imported demo units of three PHEV SUVs to Pakistan, including the Denza B8.

According to the information, the plan is to launch these models after BYD’s local assembly setup becomes operational in July-August.
