Capital Smart Motors Signs MoU with Geely to Launch NEVs in Pakistan
The Pakistani electric vehicle segment is rapidly growing, especially over the last couple of years, as several major companies, including Deepal, BYD, Honri Ve, and Seres Pakistan, have introduced their vehicles in the local market. Keeping with the pace, the federal government announced its NEV policy in 2024, offering substantial incentives for EV bikes and cars, as well as structural development, while focusing on environmental impact.
Then, in January 2025, the government reduced the electricity tariff for charging stations from Rs. 71 per unit to Rs. 39.70 per unit. For the first time in the country’s history, electricity prices for electric vehicles (EVs) were reduced by 44%. Alongside this, regulations for establishing EV charging stations and battery swapping points were also implemented. These regulations were introduced under the Power Division’s National Energy Conservation Authority (NEECA).
CSM & Geely – A New Arrival
Now, a new player has entered the market for EVs as Capital Smart Motors (CSM) and the Chinese brand Geely have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). According to an official statement, the signing of the MoU between Capital Smart Motors (CSM) and Geely marks a significant step toward transforming Pakistan’s mobility landscape.
“Through this strategic partnership, we proudly introduce Zeekr, Riddara, and Farizon, Geely Group’s premium New Energy Vehicle (NEV) brands, driving the future of smart, sustainable transportation in Pakistan,” the statement read.
It is essential to mention that CSM is a new venture of Habib Rafiq Engineering (HRL), a company with experience in various sectors, including infrastructure development, industrial projects, and real estate ventures such as Capital Smart City and Lahore Smart City.
As per a Press Release by the company, CSM is going to introduce:
- Geely Zeekr: A global premium EV brand
- Geely Riddara: One of the biggest EV pickup vehicles in China, built on an SUV platform
- Geely Farizon: A global leader in commercial NEVs, including buses, light commercial vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks.
Potential Launch
The company has not provided a specific timeline for launching the vehicles in Pakistan, as mentioned above. However, our sources revealed that the CSM will start the sales in the next couple of months.
