Car dealers of Lahore have been deciding to hold an indefinite strike on Mall Road if both the provincial and federal governments fail to address their concerns. These concerns include policies regarding the importing of cars and different taxation measures. According to the Lahore Car Dealers Federation, the government has not been serious in solving their concerns ever since it took office. The car dealers assert that the local auto industry can suffer a lot if proper measures are not taken to improve the situation. The new auto players will also get discouraged due to decreased demand.

The Lahore Car Dealers Federation also asserted that the automobile sector is heading towards a disaster. Around 35% of car showrooms have been closed due to diminishing business opportunities for car dealers. A protest took place a few months ago where the car dealers demanded to solve their problems. The minister for Industries ensured that their demands would be met; however, nothing has been done to resolve issues. The issues at that time were related to the Punjab Revenue Authority and the Excise and Taxation Department.

The car dealers also decry that the Minister of Industries assured them that he would advocate taxation issues in front of the FBR, but he failed to do that as well. The car dealers state the government has almost halted the import of cars by imposing huge duties. Moreover, locally manufactured cars have also experienced increased taxation. The rupee devaluation against the dollar has further worsened the situation by skyrocketing the prices of cars in Pakistan.

No one take action without protest, sales of automobile decrease up to 60 percent. Local new cars are low standard with high prices as 16 to 20 k. Now common man can’t buy car, Govt. should decrease taxes/duties.
