Have you ever thought about what comes under different car segments or types of cars running on roads? OR what are the parameters defining these small, spacious, bulky, and big cars?

For some, a car is merely an equipment to commute and for some, it is a perfect source of joy with family or friends. Meaning, these cars are diversified depending upon what meets your needs? And; this is the size and space which make a car different from the other.

Let’s move straight to the topic – what comes under car segments?

A-Segment (Mini-Compact (Mini Hatchback)

Mini Compact cars are mainly designed for city driving. The size of these hatchbacks is way less than 4 meter in length – specially engineered to make them the best choice for urban use.

Comes inside the cabin, these small cars normally have four seats where passengers sitting in the back have to sacrifice leg room.

Concerning power, companies never compromise on it. Their engines are powerful enough to commute within the city and even to travel on motorways.

These cars never offer much comfort to passengers. Besides, you may find it difficult to overtake when you have four seats occupied inside.

Talking about the sitting arrangement, B-segment cars come with five seats and low boot space. With all seats occupied, passengers can’t feel comfortable on a long journey. It should be noted that B segments with saloon bodies carry good boot space.

These B-segments cars offer a decent size of engine ranging from 1.0 litre to 1.3 litre, usually mated with CVT or DCT drivetrains including Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT). Unlike A-segment hatchbacks, these sub-compacts are equipped with premium features and furnished interior.

Inside the cabin, these cars come with 5 seats and ample boot space, making it an ideal machine for family. Automatic transmission cum torque converter also adds some comfort to these cars.

Here, the bigger size demands a powerful engine ranging from 1.5 litre to 1.8 litre. Unlike the small hatchbacks, companies ensure special safety measures while producing C segment cars.

C-segment cars include:

D-Segment (Mid-size Family cars)

D-Segment cars lie between compact executive cars and large family cars. Bigger size and premium quality are the only definitions of these vehicles. This is where the size makes them hard to maneuver.

Premium exterior and interior, five seats offering enough space inside the cabin, and powerful engines starting at 1.8 litre is the perfect combination of beauty cum beast.

Here, Powertrain is not of concern but a premium interior with a wide range of features – making a long journey comfortable. The Owners of these cars love to spend their time in the back seat and enjoy the commute.

E-Segment (Executive Luxury Cars)

These E-segment cars are another name for 5-star hotels running on wheels. This segment is specified for those who are still not satisfied with D-segment vehicles and expect something extra in the form of features, space, and luxury.

Cars under the badge of this segment come with some extras like dimension and room inside the vehicle. How much space? You may ask, a person with 6 feet of height can easily adjust him on the rear seats.

Executive class and luxury shouting in and outside the cars make them the machines for business class. Again, if you are thinking of city commuting while riding one of these beasts, Good Luck then.

Coming to the power, uttering about the engine is about to lament these cars – carries the power to rush the car off the line within seconds.

F-Segment (Full Size Luxury Cars)

F-Segment cars offer the maximum luxury, power, and space for passengers. With the highest price badges, these beasts are armed with the latest technology – seem near to futuristic models.

Cars belonging to this segment are even longer than 5 meter in size. This is where the long wheelbase is in demand, focus is on the room given to the rear seats, offering ample room to the rich owner of the car. Normally, chiefs of the state, CEOs, and celebrities ride these machines. These are also known as G-segment cars.

Where the sales of these luxuries are of concern, the sales charts are not so high. Last year, just 400 units were sold around the world. Here, the US is leading followed by China.

German cars are ruling in this segment but now facing competition from Asia (China).
