It seems that MG Pakistan and its consumers are once again at odds, as reports are suggesting that the company is asking for extra money despite full payment. The issue rose after MG Pakistan increased the prices of MG HS Exclusive. According to a notification, the price is increased in three stages.

The company has increased Rs200,000 even for the consumers who have paid full payment, and their deliveries were scheduled for November-December 2021. Meanwhile, Rs500,000 are increased for the consumers who have booked HS on partial payment with same delivery time . And Rs850,000 are hiked for all new orders and delivery of January 2022.

It is pertinent to mention that the price hike doesn’t affect the consumers who have booked their cars on full payment. Although it is not a written law, but most companies don’t take extra payment in case of price increase, meaning it is more of ethical practice in the local auto industry. But MG Pakistan is still asking extra Rs200,000 from them, and consumers are not happy over it.

MG Pakistan Stance

While talking to PakWheels.com, MG officials said the company had to take a price increase decision based on an abrupt hike in sea freight and rising USD vs PKR rate. MG has sustained prices for 10,000 units delivered to date even after costs increased. However, for MG HS Exclusive, only 23% of the total cost is being passed on to the customer. The official added that MG has not shifted the complete burden to the buyers because with this new dollar rate. “The burden should be over Rs850,000, but we only applied it on the new orders,” he claimed.

The official further said that the price hike is only shifted for MG HS Exclusive, not MG HS. “There are around 800 MG HS units at Karachi port, and we will deliver it to our buyers at the original price,” the official told us.

MG reassured that they remain committed to local production in Pakistan. They are conducting nationwide research under the campaign “Pakistan Chooses the Next MG” and are obtaining feedback on global lineup vehicles, i.e. MG 5 MG 6, RX 8, HS 2.0T AWD, ZS and HS PHEV, to finalize local product models.
