This article will help you understand how to check the suspension of a car. There are generally two types of suspension systems: independent and non-independent suspension system. In the independent suspension system, the impact on one side of the suspension will not be transferred to the other. However, in the non-independent suspension system, the impact on one side is observed on the entire suspension system.

A suspension system of any car comprises of several different parts. Some of the important parts include tie rods and rack end. Rack end is connected with a ball joint which is wrapped in a rubber boot. This rubber boot protects the ball joint from dust and dirt so that there is less friction when the ball joint moves. All of these components must be in optimal condition for the suspension to work smoothly and efficiently. Another important component is the lower arm in the suspension. The dimensions of the lower arm are measured to determine its health. The health of the bushings of the lower arm is also checked.

At the lower end of the lower arm, there is a ball joint which supports the entire weight of the suspension. Rack ends also have dust covers that protect them. Their condition is also checked to know the overall health of the suspension system. Shock absorbers are also checked by inspecting the dust covers at the upper end.

A tie rod is linked to the steering assembly at the one end and the knuckle assembly at the other end. Tie rods ensure maximum control of the car, and it is important that they are in optimal condition. It is essential to ensure that the tie rods are perfectly in place and in order to do so, cotter pins are used. Always ensure that you are using a new cotter pin. The bushings of the lower arm get damaged quickly if you drive your car on bumpy roads like those in rural areas.

There are two types of shock absorbers available in the market: oil-filled and hydraulic shocks. Oil-filled shocks also come with gas-filled shocks. Leaking of the seal is common in the oil-filled shock absorbers. This usually happens with time or the distance your car has covered. Bad road conditions can also cause this seal leakage. Whenever your shock absorber gets damaged, make sure you get it replaced rather getting it repaired.
