Chery Unveils All-New Tiggo 9 PHEV

Chery has introduced the all-new Tiggo 9 C-DM plug-in hybrid in China, alongside updates to the Tiggo 9 and the Tiggo 9X (the base trim in the lineup), as reported by CarNewsChina.

The Tiggo 9 has already been a strong seller in China’s mid-to-large SUV segment, and this new C-DM PHEV variant adds electrification to the mix.

What’s new and where it’s sold

The C-DM is the first plug-in hybrid version of the Tiggo 9 sold in China. It arrives alongside the new configuration tweaks for the regular Tiggo 9 and a new Tiggo 9X.

The regular Tiggo 9 retains its 2.0-litre turbo engine and focuses on equipment adjustments rather than major styling changes. The Tiggo 9X, a lower trim, comes with minor exterior enhancements.

For Pakistan readers, these are China-market models; right-hand-drive or local-spec details will only be precise if Chery issues a regional announcement.

What’s New in the Tiggo 9 Lineup

Tiggo 9 C-DM (PHEV)

The big news is Chery’s first-ever plug-in hybrid Tiggo 9. It combines a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with a front electric motor and a 3-speed hybrid transmission. In simple terms, it gives you both the punch of a petrol engine and the efficiency of electric power.

Battery and Range

The PHEV carries a 19.43 kWh lithium battery that supports fast charging. Here’s what that means for drivers:

Standard Tiggo 9

No major changes are under the hood here; it retains the tried-and-tested 2.0L turbo engine, but Chery has added some extra features and refinements for enhanced comfort and technology.

This is the entry-level trim, with subtle exterior tweaks and a leaner feature set for those who want Tiggo styling at a lower price point.

Prices in China and holiday offers

Here’s what the new Tiggo 9 lineup costs in China (converted to USD for reference):

Model (China) List price (CNY) Currency Conversion (PKR)
Tiggo 9X 147,900 5,843,748
Tiggo 9 152,900 6,041,305
Tiggo 9 C-DM (PHEV) 165,900 6,554,954

(Prices are for the Chinese market. Export or right-hand-drive versions, if announced, may differ.)

Why It Matters for Pakistan

For now, the Tiggo 9 PHEV remains exclusive to China. Chery Pakistan has hinted at making announcements next week, but there is no confirmation of a local launch yet.

That said, with rising interest in hybrids and plug-ins — and growing government focus on cleaner mobility — vehicles like the Tiggo 9 PHEV could eventually reach the market if demand and policy support align.

For Pakistani buyers, the debut highlights Chery’s global direction: steadily electrifying its SUV lineup while maintaining competitive prices locally. How much that strategy will apply in Pakistan depends on timing, demand, and local regulations.
