A Karachi consumer court has imposed a fine of Rs. 500,000 on MG Motors Pakistan for delaying delivery to one of its customers. According to details, the customer booked MG HS Trophy Grade on June 11, 2021. The car’s delivery date was December 2021; however, the company could not deliver the vehicle in time.

Court Verdict on MG Motors

Judge Javed Ali Korejo ordered the company to pay this fine in compensation and damages to the customer. He also slapped additional Rs. 50,000 fine on the company for “providing faulty services” under Section 33(1) of the Sindh Consumer Protection Act, 2014. The court asked the company to deposit the fine in the government treasury within 30 days.

In case of failure to comply with the court’s orders, the judge warned that the company should face jail for at least one month, which can extend to three years. Also, it can face a fine, not less than Rs. 50,000 or both.

Complainant’s Advocate

Talking to PakWheels.com, Advocate Rajesh Ambwani said that the court repeatedly sent notices to MG Motors, but no official from the company reached the court during the hearing. “Although the company officials received all the notices,” the advocate claimed.

In his verdict, the judge observed that the complainant sustained monetary losses and also suffered agony when the car was not delivered on time. “The complainant felt discomfort and mental suffering which included fright, feeling of distress, anxiety, depression etc.” the judge observed.

And the judge has also ordered MG Motors to deliver the car to the customer within 30 days or alternatively return the principal amount with 15% increment per annum.

MG Motors Stance

Giving company’s point of view, MG official told us that there appears to be a case between one of our dealers and the complainant. We are digging to find out details.  “No notice has been served to the head office or the dealer,” he added.

This is not the first time that MG Pakistan has faced the issue of late deliveries. However, the company claims that it will soon start local assembly, and the problem will resolve very soon. Earlier this month, Javed Afridi shared the MG’s plant in Pakistan, saying that locally assembled MG3, MG5, and MG Gloster will arrive in Pakistan soon.

We hope this will be the last such issue, and MG will start locally assembled units soon.
