In a bid to ensure smooth flow of traffic, the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi (CTP) has issued fines for parking violations worth over Rs.1.8 million in March 2019.

In an operation against the wrong parking, the traffic police lifted nearly 3711 vehicles and 5712 motorbikes, which were found, parked in a wrong way on different roads of Rawalpindi. The owners of these vehicles were issued challan slips for the parking violation. The cases of wrong parking, parallel parking and parking in prohibited areas were not tolerated by the traffic police and heavy fines were imposed on the owners resulting in generating over Rs.1.8 million.

According to the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Muhammad Bin Ashraf, the wrong parking cases had increased considerably therefore, the traffic wardens and field officers were directed to take strict action against those violating the parking rules. Although there are several banners displayed in different areas of the city to create awareness among the citizens, the parking hurdles had only increased in the past few months. The smooth flow of traffic is not possible in this sort of double parking situation that squeezes the roads even more. He further briefed that the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi had issued strict instructions to all the traffic wardens in this regard. The wrong parking and one-way violation cases, particularly in the congested areas including Murree Road, Mall Road, Peshawar Road, Commercial market, and Airport Road will not be tolerated in any case.

He said that the traffic police is striving hard to provide facilities to the citizens and also expect responsiveness and cooperation from them to solve the growing issues of traffic congestion. Additional traffic wardens have been deployed at the busy roads of Rawalpindi to remove any sorts of hurdles and ensure smooth flow of traffic. There are a number of lifters in the city which will take care of the wrongly parked motorbikes and cars. For a long period of time, traffic has been in its worst state especially in areas like College Road, Raja Bazar, Murree Road, etc. He clearly stated that any vehicle found parked outside the allotted parking areas will be impounded in the respective police station and further proceedings will be carried out in accordance with the law.

Note here that the traffic situation in the twin cities has turned into a nightmare for the commuters. However, the citizens also need to take full responsibility in abiding by the traffic laws to help everyone commute with greater ease.
