Deepal S09 Quick Review: Why This Should be in Pakistan?

Following our exclusive coverage of the world’s biggest automotive event, the Beijing Auto Show 2026, the PakWheels team also attended Changan’s Global Partner Conference in China, where the brand unveiled its all-new lineup of global vehicles.

Of all the models in the showcase, two caught our attention: the Nevo Q05 and the Deepal S09.

The Nevo Q05 stood out because it is set to launch in Pakistan very soon (read our detailed coverage of the Q05).

This article, however, will focus exclusively on the highly anticipated Deepal S09.

A Quick Background of Deepal in Pakistan

Deepal, a dedicated New Energy Vehicle (NEV) subsidiary of Changan, entered the Pakistani market in 2024 with the launch of two EVs, the L07 sedan and S07 SUV.

Later on, in 2025, the brand also launched the S05. It is Deepal’s first Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) in Pakistan, featuring both an EV battery and a combustion engine that acts solely as a generator to charge the battery, while the electric motor drives the wheels.

Deepal also showcased its ambitions by unveiling the K50 Hunter, an REEV pickup truck, though it has yet to be officially launched.

Given Deepal’s growing local lineup and the rising demand for hybrid technologies, the S09 in the Changan’s Global Conference impressed us. We believe it is a good fit for the Pakistani market and should be the next model slated for a local launch.

What is the Deepal S09?

The Deepal S09 is a mid-size, flagship SUV designed to dominate the high-end luxury vehicle segment.

It’s not a full EV like the L07 and S07, but a REEV, and that’s another reason why it’s a good fit for our market, as REEVs have good enough EV range for city commuting and an engine as a backup.

The Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the Deepal S09 features a highly efficient 1.5L engine, but it acts purely as a generator.

The task of moving the SUV falls on a rear-mounted electric motor that produces an impressive 314 horsepower and 375 Nm of instant torque, all sent to a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system.

Huge Battery and Long EV Range

The impressive part is its 40.18 kWh (LFP) battery.

To put that into perspective, this battery size is large enough to deliver 140 kilometers of pure EV range (under EPA standards) before the petrol engine ever needs to turn on to generate more power.

For most of the daily city commutes in Pakistan, owners could theoretically drive the S09 without ever burning a drop of fuel.

Target Audience & Competition in Pakistan

The S09 is built for a very specific, high-end demographic. It targets executives, large families, and luxury car buyers who want a very premium, feature-rich, and silent-riding experience, but also want the capabilities of EV for city driving.

Rivals in Pakistan

Considering its sheer size and luxury appeal, its target market in Pakistan would be the same buyers looking at the Hyundai Palisade and the GWM Tank 500

However, due to its large battery and 140 km of EPA range, we can say it’s a part-time EV as well, which its other competitors can’t match.
