Economic Alarm: PAMA Warns Punjab Transport Strike Poses ‘Significant Risk’ to National Economy

Lahore — The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has issued an urgent appeal to the Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab, calling for immediate intervention to resolve an ongoing goods transport strike that is causing severe disruptions across the province and threatening the national economy.

In a letter dated December 12, 2025, PAMA, through its Director General, Abdul Waheed Khan, highlighted that the strike by goods transport operators is a direct response to recent amendments to the Punjab Vehicle Ordinance. The letter stresses that the industrial action is already causing “severe disruptions to supply chains” and poses a “significant risk of financial losses to businesses and the national economy.”

The manufacturing body lauded Punjab’s progress in infrastructure and economic development, but warned that the current crisis could undermine it.

PAMA has strongly urged the Chief Minister to engage immediately with representatives of the relevant transport associations. The goal, according to the letter, is to “address their concerns and implement a fair, practical solution that safeguards economic stability.”

The association concluded its plea by stating that a prompt resolution is “essential to prevent further losses and ensure the smooth functioning of the transport sector, which is vital for Punjab and Pakistan’s overall economic well-being.”

Copies of the urgent communication have also been forwarded to the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Federal Minister of Communications, the Federal Minister of Industries and Production, and all PAMA members.
