Electric motorcycles soon to be introduced in Pakistan

The Ministry of Science and Technology headed by Chaudhry Fawad Hussain recently announced the probable introduction of electric motorcycles and rickshaws in Pakistan. Mr. Fawad further asserted that Pakistan has one of the highest numbers of motorcycles in the world. This means that there is a lot of pollution caused by these motorcycles and there is a need to import more and more barrels of oil to cater to motorcyclists. This can increase the import bill that Pakistan has to bear.

In order to reduce pollution and reduce our dependence on imported oil, this initiative can be very beneficial for Pakistan. Electric motorcycles and rickshaws are readily available and are cheaper to purchase run. You can easily charge them as they have smaller batteries compared to electric cars like Tesla. Electric vehicles like motorcycles and rickshaws also curb noise pollution from the environment. Mr. Fawad Chaudhry also expressed his desire to bring about a shift from petroleum vehicles to electric vehicles. He also drove an electric motorcycle at the Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET) to demonstrate the viability of such vehicles.

With electric rickshaws, we can revolutionize the way we travel around urban areas. Since these rickshaws are more efficient, we can see a decrease in the fares which can, in turn, make the rickshaw industry more competitive. Similarly, electric motorcycles and rickshaws are being mass-produced in countries like China and Japan. This means these modes of transportation will be available at affordable prices. Moreover, the government can also provide subsidies for the electric vehicle market in Pakistan. This will encourage people to venture into businesses related to electric vehicles.
