Electronic Toll Plazas Soon to Install on Motorways

National Highway Authority (NHA) is gearing up to devise some fresh strategies in order to make traffic and related commercial activities better on Motorways. Authority has signed an agreement with Frontier Works Organization under which electronic toll plazas will be installed on motorways.

Federal Minister for Communication and Postal Services Asad Mehmood was the chief guest on the occasion. Muhammad Azhar, Member Finance from NHA and Brig Asif Siddique (retired), Director IT from FWO signed the agreement.

Mahmood said that the duration of the said agreement is 7 years which can be further extended for 3 years. The system comes with the installation of modern machinery including operational and management services.

He said that the system would be further extended to the national highways. “Ongoing projects of the NHA should be completed as soon as possible with national spirit”, he added. He hoped that the project will be completed with in the duration of 8 months.

What is E- Toll Collection System?

Electronic toll collection system is smart enough to capture the details of incoming vehicles from RFID chip placed at the windscreen of the car using electronic readers installed at toll plazas. This system helps to handle the ever-increasing traffic volumes.

The purpose to chart this electric system would extend the help to collect correct data pertaining to toll revenue. Moreover, it would also make them able to ensure a smooth a traffic flow and other commercial activities.

It should be clear that FWO carries the capacity to install and even operate the electron toll tax system. The same toll tax system is already operational on certain lanes in Islamabad, Ravi, Kala Shah Kaku and Sambarial toll plazas.
