The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab has inaugurated the Center for Knowledge Exchange and Policy Dialogue (CKE&PD), a strategic initiative to integrate scientific research into provincial environmental governance.
The center was formally opened by Mr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, DG, EPA Punjab, and Ms. Silwat Saeed, Secretary, Environment Protection & Climate Change Department.
Purpose of CKE&PD
The CKE&PD is structured as a think tank, facilitating collaboration among policymakers, researchers, and industrial stakeholders to address persistent environmental challenges, particularly in the transport sector.
Policy Framework for the Automotive and Transport Sectors
Under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act, 1997, the center is tasked with transforming environmental data into actionable regulatory frameworks.
Given the significant impact of the automotive and logistics industries on air quality, the hub will focus on data-driven solutions to modernize transport networks.
Automotive Industry Key Objectives:
The following are some of the vital focuses solely for the auto sector:
- Emission Control Standards
Developing technical benchmarks to monitor and reduce vehicular pollutants.
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Transition
Providing the research foundation for policies that encourage electric mobility and infrastructure development.
- Data-Driven Governance
Maintaining a centralized repository of environmental research to guide sustainable urban planning and green mobility projects.
Enhancing Industry Compliance and Knowledge
The center aims to act as a technical resource for the private sector, offering workshops and seminars to ensure industry players are aligned with evolving environmental standards.
By hosting regular policy dialogues, the CKE&PD intends to create a transparent environment where technological development and regulatory compliance can progress in tandem.
As Punjab continues to address air quality and climate change, the establishment of the CKE&PD marks a move toward a more evidence-based approach to environmental management in the region’s transport and industrial sectors.
