Fact Check: Has the Government Revised Vehicle Import Policy?
A viral post circulating on social media claims that the Pakistani government has introduced “new amendments” to the vehicle import Gift Scheme for overseas Pakistanis. The post claims that:
- The requirement that a vehicle imported under the Gift Scheme must come from the same country where the overseas Pakistani resides has been removed.
- The requirement for prior registration of the vehicle in the sender’s name before import has also been removed.
Fact Check: Fake & Misleading
Following a fact-check based on official import policies, it has been confirmed that the viral social media post is entirely baseless.
Before the breakdown, here’s the official Gift Scheme vehicle import policy, issued by FBR.

Here’s the breakdown that proves the above post is false and misleading:
1. The “Country of Origin” Condition Never Existed in the Gift Scheme
The viral post claims the government has removed the condition requiring the vehicle’s country of origin to match the sender’s country of residence. However, this requirement was never a part of the Gift Scheme to begin with.
According to Pakistan’s actual import policy, the country-of-origin condition applies only to the Transfer of Residence (TR) policy, not the Gift Scheme.
It is impossible for the government to abolish a policy from a scheme when that policy never existed in the first place.
2. Prior Registration Was Never Mandatory
The second claim states that the requirement for prior registration of the vehicle in the sender’s name has been revoked. This, too, is false.
There has never been a mandatory requirement under the Gift Scheme regulations that a vehicle be registered in the sender’s name in the origin country before being sent to Pakistan.
