The Investigation On The Rumour
To verify the authenticity of the viral clips and the claims surrounding them, our team launched a direct inquiry into the matter.
With the Punjab government recently emphasizing “Green Punjab” initiatives to combat smog and reduce carbon emissions, the transition to EVs seems plausible, but official confirmation was required.
We reached out directly to the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore to clarify the situation.
Findings and Facts
The CTO of Lahore has officially confirmed the speculations.
During our correspondence, the department verified that the Lahore Traffic Police has indeed inducted New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) into their patrol fleet.
Contrary to the limited view in the viral video, the upgrade is more extensive than initially thought.
The department confirmed the induction of two specific models:
- BYD Atto 3
A fully electric SUV known for its advanced “Blade Battery” technology and modern aesthetics.
- BYD Shark 6
A rugged Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) pickup truck, likely intended for heavy-duty patrolling and highway duties.
This move aligns with the provincial government’s broader directive to shift government departments toward eco-friendly transportation to mitigate the city’s environmental challenges.
The Verdict
Based on the visual evidence and direct confirmation from the CTO’s office, the claim that Lahore Traffic Police is using BYD electric vehicles is TRUE.
The department is actively utilizing both the BYD Atto 3 and the BYD Shark 6 as part of their modernized, eco-conscious fleet.
This marks a significant step in modernizing Pakistan’s law enforcement infrastructure.
