“From Hating the MG HS To Eventually Buying It” – Owner Review

Today we’re back with the owner’s review of Arman Ali Pasha’s MG HS Essence. MG launched its CKD version of the HS named Essence earlier this year in a single variant. It has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 160 hp and 250 nm of torque. The engine is paired with a DCT transmission driving the front wheels. In this review, the owner shares his experience with his newly bought HS and briefs us about his likes and dislikes.

Purchase Decision

The owner has previously kept Civics and was looking to buy the 11th gen Civic this time. However, he was not really impressed with the features it provided; hence it didn’t feel value to money. His friends suggested he consider crossovers, in which he looked at the Sportage, Haval, and Peugeot 2008, but the prolonged delivery times made him eventually opt for the MG HS. He bought the car at an invoice of 82.63 lakhs.

Salient Features

The thing that made the owner buy the HS was its features. In his opinion, the interior is very modern, and the quality of the materials is impressive. He really enjoys the ambient lights and other features like a panoramic roof, electric seats, digital instrument cluster, driving modes, paddle shifters, etc. The semi-bucket seats are very comfortable, and the driver assistance features are a plus too. These include lane assist, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and much more.

Issues

Within five days, the owner noticed three issues in the HS that he thinks can be improved:

  1. The braking is not as responsive as it should be, and the pedal really needs to be pressed hard for immediate braking.
  2. He feels that the air conditioning throw is subpar compared to other cars, which can be problematic in harsh summers.
  3. He thinks that the infotainment system is a bit laggy, which is a universal issue with the HS.

Fuel Average

Although the HS is not known for its fuel efficiency, according to the owner, it is giving around 11 km/l within the city, and he has yet to test it on the highway. As per our testing, the HS realistically gives around 8 to 9 km/l within the city and 11 to 12 km/l on the highway, depending on the driving style.
