AION UT: Detailed Overview of GAC’s New Electric Hatchback

674

Lucky Motor Corporation has launched the GAC AION UT in Pakistan, adding a compact electric hatchback to its new GAC EV lineup.

Unlike the larger AION V and AION ES, the AION UT is aimed at urban buyers who want a smaller EV for daily use. It is not trying to be a performance car or a premium SUV alternative. Its focus is simple: city driving, cabin space, efficiency, and lower running costs.

Price and booking details are being covered separately. Here, we look at the confirmed specifications and features of the AION UT.

Real-World Insights: What Buyers Need to Know

Compact Size, Long Wheelbase

The AION UT measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height. On paper, that keeps it compact enough for city traffic, but the 2,750 mm wheelbase is the more important number.

A longer wheelbase usually helps cabin space, and LMC’s brochure also highlights rear legroom and a C-SUV-level interior space claim. For Pakistani buyers, this matters because small cars are often judged harshly if the rear seat feels cramped.

The UT also gets 440 liters of boot space, which is strong for a hatchback-style EV.

Battery and Charging

The 44 kWh LFP battery features GAC’s Magazine Battery technology, engineered for fire safety, rapid cooling, and puncture resistance, which is reassuring for local climate conditions.

Charging figures include 6.6 kW AC charging and 64 kW DC fast charging. On a DC fast charger, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes.

For most local buyers, home charging will be the real ownership advantage. If the car is used mainly in the city, the AION UT could significantly reduce fuel costs compared to petrol hatchbacks and compact crossovers.

Youthful Exterior and Practical Interior

Instead of an aggressive, angry look, the UT features a soft, rounded hatchback design. To appeal to a younger, urban demographic, LMC offers a vibrant color palette:

  • Emerald Green
  • Champs Elysees
  • Rocco White
  • Seine Silver
  • Monet Purple
  • Titian Red

GAC AION UT EXTERIOR

Inside, it focuses on everyday durability over luxury excess, featuring high-grade fabric upholstery in a dual-tone French Cream and Black theme that makes the cabin feel brighter and easier to maintain.

Technology and Heavy Safety Tech

The AION UT gets a significantly better screen setup than the AION ES sedan:

  • 8.88-inch Instrument Cluster and 14.6-inch Infotainment Screen.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone connectivity.
  • PM 2.5 Air Filter: A crucial addition for health-conscious buyers living in urban areas with seasonal smog and dust.

Safety is where the UT truly shines against conventional local hatchbacks. Alongside 6 standard airbags and front/rear parking sensors with an SVM camera system, it packs a massive ADAS (Driver Assistance) suite.

Long-Term Warranty and Buyer Confidence

EV buyers in Pakistan remain inherently cautious about battery life, software support, repair costs, and future resale value. To build market confidence, LMC is offering highly competitive warranty coverage:

Warranty Type Coverage
Battery Warranty 8 years / 200,000 km
Vehicle Warranty 8 years / 160,000 km

While the long warranty offers immediate peace of mind, the ultimate test will depend on how efficiently LMC establishes its after-sales support and parts availability.

The Verdict: Who is the AION UT for?

  • Great Fit For: City commuters looking to slash running costs, small families needing crossover-level legroom in a parkable footprint, tech-focused drivers, and safety-conscious buyers.
  • Not Ideal For: Frequent intercity travelers who regularly drive long distances without access to reliable public fast-charging infrastructure.

If priced competitively against local petrol crossovers and premium hatchbacks, the GAC AION UT offers one of the most well-rounded and practical electric packages in Pakistan’s compact car space.
