While driving, everyone is a Chaudhry in Pakistan. Everybody follows their own rules on the road. The number of irresponsible and rash drivers is growing each day. Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman, has directed the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to do something about the matter and make the driving license issuance process more challenging. The IG has instructed ITP to conduct inflexible test modules and do a strict evaluation of the candidates.
IG Islamabad paid a visit to the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Headquarters to have a look around and see how things are going in different departments.
Highlights of IG Islamabad’s Visit
SSP (Traffic) Syed Karar Hussain received the IG and briefed him on the ITP procedures. The IG appreciated the services and directed the Islamabad Traffic Police to prove itself the most capable force and emerge as a role model for other police departments.
The IG emphasised the safety of citizens on the road. He instructed ITP to strictly implement the traffic laws and launch a special campaign to educate the road users.
The IG straight up said that the driving license procedure has become more of a formality than a test. He asked the officials to tighten it a bit so that only qualified drivers get licenses. As an example, he proposed to judge the driver’s skills for reversing a vehicle in tight spots with reasonable accuracy.
The IG directed ITP to take strict action against traffic rules violators. He asked the police force to leave no stone unturned to stop one-wheeling, tinted glass, non-pattern number plates, non-completion of routes, overloading, and misbehaviour with passengers.
SSP informed the IG that ITP had challaned over 35,000 traffic rules violators in the past week. He said that ITP is taking different measures to facilitate the citizens, such as software for digital challan and driving license, traffic education, and distribution of free helmets among the road-users. In the end, SSP thanked the IG on his visit and assured him of further hard work. He also promised to keep the citizens updated through ITP FM Radio 92.4.
