One of the biggest cars of the year is finally here and it’s none other than the Honda Civic 2022. Honda has launched the new Civic with a massive price tag. The old Civic used to rule the C-segment sedans in Pakistan. The big question is does the new model have what it takes to dominate the segment?

The new Civic has an open rivalry with two other C-segment sedans, Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra. Let’s put the Honda’s latest sedan against Hyundai’s and see which one is ahead of the other. The mid Honda Civic Oriel against the Hyundai Elantra GLS. It’s Civic vs Elantra.

Dimensions

Size-wise, the new Civic is 54 mm longer than Elantra, whereas Elantra is 35 mm taller than Civic. Civic is 4674 mm long, 1801 mm wide, and 1415 mm tall. Elantra is 4620 mm long, 1800 mm wide, and 1450 mm tall.

Civic is also lighter than Elantra. Civic weighs 1396 kgs and Elantra weighs 1789 kgs.

Engine

Elantra is more powerful than Civic. Elantra’s 2.0-litre Naturally Aspirated MPi engine produces 155 horsepower and 195 Nm of torque. Civic is powered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged i-Vtec DOHC engine that produces 127 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque.

Elantra has 6-speed automatic transmission, and Civic has CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Elantra has four drive modes (Normal, ECO, Smart, Sport). Civic Oriel has two drive modes (Normal, ECON).

Exterior

Both cars got the good looks, but Elantra does it better. Elantra has automatic tetra LED headlights, LED DRLs, LED tail lights, and a chrome coated front grille. Civic Oriel features a matte finish black grille, halogen projection headlights, LED DRLs, lens type tail lights, and halogen fog lamps.

Both cars have 16-inch alloy wheels with a spare wheel, electric and retractable side-view mirrors, and a sunroof. Both have smart keyless entry, but Civic’s remote also has a trunk open button.

Interior

In terms of the features inside the cabin, both cars are pretty much at par. Both have engine push start, electronic parking brake with Auto Brake Hold, leather seats, tilt and telescopic adjustment in steering wheel, and automatic dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents.

For the differences, Elantra has an 8-way powered driver’s seat, while the seat adjustments in Civic are manual. Elantra has a 4.2-inch MID (Multi-Information Display), while Civic has a 7-inch TFT MID. Elantra has a 7-inch infotainment screen, Civic has a 9-inch infotainment screen with voice recognition.

Safety

Safety-wise, it’s a close call between the two sedans. Both have two airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Emergency Brake Distributor), VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), HAC (Hill Assist Control), TC (Traction Control), adaptive cruise control, and rear camera with guidelines.

Both miss out on parking sensors, TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), and other high-end safety features.

Price

Honda’s has tagged the mid Civic variant with a price of Rs. 5,399,000. Compared to that, Hyundai Elantra GLS costs Rs. 4,399,000 only. The price difference of Rs. 10 lacs is enough to make even the die-hard Civic lover choose Elantra.
