Honda Vezel Revealed Internationally, Launch Awaited!
Honda revealed the latest model of its crossover SUV for Japan and European market. The model is placed under CR-V in the Honda portfolio. The car is called Honda Vezel [in Japan], while known as HR-V in other markets. The new models sit on an entirely new platform, “GN”, which it shares with the 7th generation Honda City as well as the current new generation of Honda Jazz/Fit.
Exterior:
As for exterior styling, the newer generation is more of a like crossover coupe with extreme roofline slopes “B “pillar onwards on the side profile. The new design and cut lines of the bonnet and the change in the windshield slope give an impression of a much longer front end. This is the same design strategy which you will see on the upcoming new Honda Civic.
Furthermore, the front has a big grille with horizontal lines blending nicely with bumper and headlights on both sides. This gives the car a very sportier look.
On the rear, the sloped glass and new hatch design really give it a sporty look along with a new full-width and sleek taillight design. Like more premium and modern cars nowadays, a much elongated high stop LED brake light is provided on the rear spoiler. As of front, it’s a mix show. Honda introduced a newer front with new slim headlights with integrated LED daytime running light with changeable signal indicators.
The front of the vehicle will be available with two different grill designs. A horizontal body color painted slated grill or more conventional grille with chrome inserts/openings. The new generation does not share anything with the previous Vezel/ HR-V except the “hidden door handle “on the rear doors.
Interior of Honda Vezel:
On the interior, things do look modern and premium with a minimalistic approach. The car has a new steering wheel and a new gauge cluster [ same as in the new Honda City ]. The climate controls are also similar to the new City with knobs and digital controls. Slim Horizontal air vents go the full-length, and Honda introduced the knob type control for side vent opening and closing.
There will be a tablet-style floating touch screen head unit. Overall it gives the vibe of the next generation / upcoming Honda Civic rendered interior. There will be a Panoramic glass roof while Honda next generation of active safety system/ Honda sending.
Engine:
As of the engine, not many details about Honda Vezel are available. Expect it to be similar to Honda Fit / Jazz or Honda City. In Japan, a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC non-hybrid, as well as a two-motor Hybrid system, will be available. As for Hybrid, it might be similar to the new Honda Jazz, which is a 1.5L i-VTEC petrol with a two-motor hybrid system. One motor works as a generator while the other move the vehicle. There is a lithium battery and a single-gear transmission. Total system power is around 109 HP. The new Hybrid variant would not be called an “e: HEV “. The Honda new Hybrid two-motor system is an interesting mechanism.
It uses three driving modes, EV, Hybrid and Engine drive mode. In EV mode, the engine is sleeping, the battery powers the motor, it has the regenerative feature as well, so when brakes are applied, the motor works as a generator and charge the battery. In Hybrid Drive, the engine powers the generator, which produce power and runs the electric motor, which then moves the car.
Meanwhile, in Hybrid Drive, the engine is not moving the car directly; it just runs the generator to power the electric motor. In the Hybrid mode, the battery pack also sends power to the motor for maximum acceleration/ performance. In the Engine drive mode, the actual engine comes into play. There is a lockup clutch that engages the engine with an axle to drive wheels.
Other salient features of this upcoming car are:
- Lane Keeping Support
- Collision Mitigation Brake
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Blind Spot Information
- Hill-Descent Control
- Multi-View Camera
By looks, the car looks astonishingly beautiful and sleek. We hope that Honda Atlas will brought it in Pakistan.
