Hyundai Elantra Vs. Corolla Altis Grande X – A Comparison

As Hyundai Elantra has been launched as a fresh entrant in the sedan category, we are going to compare it with Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X, which is the top of the line variant of Toyota sedans. Both of the sedans are in executive segments of vehicles in Pakistan. We are going to compare the engine, power, transmission, exterior, interior, safety and other features of these vehicles.

So, let’s put the two sedans to the test and see who’s got it better.

Engine and Transmission: 

Hyundai has launched Elantra with 1999cc engine, which generates 154hp and 195Nm torque. Corolla, on the other hand, comes with a 1798cc engine that produces 138hp and 173Nm toque. So, Elantra has a more powerful engine than Corolla. That being said, Corolla has an edge over transmission. Corolla’s 1798cc engine comes with CVT, while Elantra has 6-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Exterior: 

Corolla has a bold exterior with LED projection headlights, tail lights, DRLs and fog lamps. Elantra has a bolder exterior  with TETRA LED headlamps, tail lamps, and DRLs and fog lamps. Corolla has an additional feature of automatic leveling to avoid blinding oncoming traffic from headlight glare and to assure a range of visibility, something that’s missing in Elantra.

Both sedans run on the 16-inch Alloy Wheels. However, Elantra has a spare alloy tyre, while Civic offers a spare steel tyre.

Interior: 

A look into the Elantra’s cabin gives away its two-tone leather interior.  Smart Key Entry, Push Start Button, Power Steering, Power Windows, Sunroof, and six speakers are some of the interior highlights of Elantra. We find all these things in Corolla’s interior as well.

The key differences are Corolla has a 9-inch touchscreen, while Elantra has a 7-inch screen. Corolla comes with automatic climate control and Elantra comes with dual-zone climate control air conditioning system. Corolla has manually adjustable drive seat, while Elantra has an 8-way electronically adjustable driver seat.  Elantra also has a Wireless Phone Charging feature that Corolla does not have.

Safety: 

Both sedans are equally safe for the passengers. 2 airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist, Light Reminder Warning, and Immobilizer are the common safety features. Both  have Rear Cameras, but without the Parking Sensors. Corolla has a Seat Belt Warning system for the front row, Elantra doesn’t.

Price: 

The current price of Corolla Altis Grande X is Rs3,979,000. Hyundai has priced the Elantra at Rs. 4,049,000.
