Is The New Honda City Worth 30 Lacs?
Honda Atlas has finally taken the covers off of the new Honda City. Last night, the company hosted a launch event at Royal Palm Lahore and revealed the prices of five City variants. The ex-factory prices range between Rs. 2,599,000 and Rs. 3,174,000. Now, the big question is: is the new City over-priced? To answer this, let’s recap the events leading up to the launch day.
Round 1: Disappointment of old generation City
For more than 12 years, Pakistanis dealt with the 5th generation City that came to Pakistan in 2009. They have been dreaming about the new generation City for years. When the company hinted at the launch of a new generation City, everyone got butterflies thinking the 7th generation City, launched internationally in 2019, will come to Pakistan. To everyone’s surprise, the so-called latest generation teased by Honda Atlas was the old 6th generation, not 7th.
Round 2: Secrecy of price and specs
People were still getting over their disappointment, trying to make peace with the 6th generation City when Honda Atlas opened the bookings for the car. No price reveal, no idea about the specs and features, just the 6th generation City available for bookings at Rs. 1 million for the two lower-end variants and Rs. 1.2 million for the three upper-end variants. Still, 12,000 buyers blindly booked the car without knowing the actual price or even getting a look at the car. Bravo!
The Final Straw: Over the top price
After months of melodrama, Honda Atlas Pakistan officially launched the 6th generation City last night. We finally know the big price secret. If we compare the prices of the new Honda City with its competitors Toyota Yaris, Proton Saga, and Changan Alsvin, the car is undoubtedly over-priced.
Although Honda did not play cool with the launch of new City, 6th generation is still a big jump from the old 5th generation. There are so many new features in this B-segment sedan that we have never had in the old one. Long story short, new City is an overpriced car, but it’s still going to sell like a hot-cake. And, scene!
