Jaecoo J7 North Trip Breakdown Turns Into Rs. 36 Lacs Repair Bill

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV shutdown incident in the Northern Areas has taken a new turn.

Earlier, we reported that a brand-new Jaecoo J7 PHEV stopped on the way to Taobat in the Neelum Valley after displaying warning messages, including “Loop detection function limited” and “Power limited, park in safe mode and contact service.” The vehicle later had to be recovered and brought back after the company’s team inspected it in the remote location.

Now, PakWheels has contacted the owner again for a follow-up, and according to him, the issue is no longer just about the shutdown. It is about the repair cost.

What the Owner Says Happened Next

According to the owner, after the vehicle was brought to the company for inspection, he was informed that a connector or protective component linked to the high-voltage battery system had been damaged.

The owner says the company told him that this connector is not available as a separate part. Instead, the complete battery pack would need to be replaced.

And the quoted cost? Rs 36 lakh.

That is where the matter became more serious for the owner.

Owner Asked for Connector Only

The owner told PakWheels that he requested the company to arrange only the replacement of the damaged connector, rather than the replacement of the entire battery pack.

His argument was simple: if the issue is a broken connector, why should the entire battery pack be replaced?

However, according to the owner, the company states that the connector is not supplied separately and is not currently available as an individual replacement part.

Why This Matters

This follow-up raises a bigger concern for hybrid and plug-in hybrid owners in Pakistan.

Modern PHEVs are not simple petrol cars. Their battery packs, high-voltage wiring, connectors, sensors, and control modules are tightly integrated. That is good for performance and safety, but it can become expensive when a small component is not available separately.

In this case, if the owner’s account is accurate, a damaged connector could lead to a full battery pack replacement costing Rs 36 lakh.

That is a serious ownership concern.

The Bigger Question for PHEV Buyers

This incident raises a larger concern for hybrid, PHEV, and EV buyers in Pakistan: repairability.

Buyers need clarity on whether small battery-related parts, such as connectors, shields, insulation, or wiring, are available separately. They should also know what the warranty covers, whether road-impact damage is excluded, and how quickly parts can be arranged.

If a battery pack is treated as a sealed assembly, even minor damage can turn into a major repair bill.

Road Conditions Also Matter

The case also raises a separate question: how well are PHEV crossovers protected for rough northern routes where stones, uneven surfaces, water crossings, and underbody impacts are common?

Many buyers now expect modern hybrid and PHEV SUVs to handle long-distance family trips, including northern-area routes. But advanced electrified vehicles need more than strong marketing. They need proper underbody protection, clear warranty terms, trained technicians, and parts availability.

Company’s Response

PakWheels also reached out to the company for its response on the matter.

However, the answers received were not satisfactory enough to fully explain the owner’s main concern. The company did not provide a clear comment on the alleged connector.

This means the most important part of the issue is still unclear. For now, the repair-cost question remains unanswered, and PakWheels will continue to follow the matter as more details emerge.

PakWheels Take

Jaecoo’s team deserves credit for reaching the vehicle earlier in a remote area, especially given the difficult location and weather conditions. But the follow-up repair situation now needs equal attention.

A Rs 36 lakh battery pack replacement due to a damaged connector is exactly the kind of ownership fear that can slow hybrid and PHEV adoption in Pakistan.

The lesson is simple: launching advanced cars is one thing. Supporting them with individual parts, clear warranty terms, and road-ready protection is the real test.
