Karachi Gets a Floodlit Track for Night Car Racing

412

Karachi’s car culture is about to get a serious upgrade. A newly prepared autocross track on Super Highway is now ready to host night car races under floodlights, giving local motorsport fans a dedicated venue rather than pushing racing onto public roads.

The track is more than two kilometers long and has been equipped with 100 light towers, 300 LED lights, and four high-mast towers. The setup is being positioned as Pakistan’s first super floodlit sports track.

What the Track Offers

The facility has been developed inside a private housing society on the Super Highway. Along with the autocross track, it also includes a 400-meter drag-race strip, which can host 200-metre side-by-side races between two cars.

A modern timing system has also been installed at the finish line, enabling accurate race timing rather than informal “who looked faster” debates. In drag events, cars are expected to reach speeds of over 250 km/h.

Four Racing Formats Planned

In the first phase, the venue is expected to support:

  • Autocross
  • Side-by-side drag racing
  • Drifting
  • Buggy ATV and remote-control off-road events

This gives Karachi a broader motorsport venue, not just a straight-line drag strip.

Why This Matters for Karachi

Karachi has a strong car enthusiast community, but organized motorsport has always had limited space. Night racing under floodlights can make events more practical, especially during hot weather and busy daytime schedules.

More importantly, a dedicated track can offer a safer alternative to illegal street racing. That only works if the venue is affordable, regularly active, and properly managed.

Safety Will Be the Real Test

The facility reportedly includes a 2.5-kilometer service line around the track for emergency support, including a fire brigade, ambulance, and medical assistance. Space has also been marked for spectators, parking, food areas, accommodation, and vehicle service zones.

That sounds promising, but motorsport safety depends on execution. Proper barriers, crowd control, vehicle checks, helmets, emergency teams, and strict event rules will matter more than the floodlights.

At speeds above 200 km/h, there is no room for casual arrangements.

PakWheels Take

This is a positive step for Karachi’s motorsport scene. A floodlit track can give enthusiasts a controlled place to race, compete, and build proper driving discipline.

But the real success will depend on how professionally events are run. If managed well, this track can help reduce unsafe street racing and create a stronger motorsport culture in Pakistan.

If managed loosely, it risks becoming just another noisy attraction with safety concerns.

For Karachi’s petrolheads, the track is ready. Now the responsibility shifts to organizers, drivers, and spectators.
