Karachi Slaps Highest-Ever E-Challan on Dumper Owner

KARACHI — In a record enforcement move, Karachi authorities have issued a Rs100,000 e-challan to a dumper owner for serious safety and compliance violations, making it the record single fine ever recorded in the city’s traffic history.

No GPS, No Fitness Certificate

The dumper, owned by a man identified as Sherzada, was reportedly operating without a mandatory GPS tracker and a valid fitness certificate. Both are legal requirements for heavy vehicles operating within city limits.

According to the traffic police, these violations were uncovered during a targeted inspection campaign aimed at improving heavy vehicle compliance in urban areas. If paid within 14 days, the fine will be reduced by 50% under traffic regulations.

Crackdown Linked to Fatal Razzaqabad Accident

This enforcement follows a recent fatal accident in the Razzaqabad area, where a dumper allegedly collided with a rickshaw, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Authorities believe the absence of proper tracking and maintenance on such vehicles contributes significantly to these preventable tragedies.

Strict Monitoring for Dumpers and Water Tankers

In an official statement, the city’s traffic control office reaffirmed its mandate: all dumpers and water tankers must install GPS trackers that grant real-time access to traffic police. Vehicles without compliant trackers will face steep penalties, including fines and impoundment.

Officials urge all heavy vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and properly monitored, warning that non-compliance will be met with decisive legal action.
