Karachi — Faisal Sattar, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, was left perplexed when he received an e-challan for a traffic violation allegedly committed by a car he doesn’t even own. The fine, amounting to Rs. 10,000, was issued by the authorities and listed a red Suzuki Mehran (model 2003) as the offending vehicle, a car Sattar has nothing to do with, as reported by ARY News.
Details of the Incorrect E-Challan
Sattar, who owns a silver Suzuki Cultus (model 2004), was shocked to find that the violation was attributed to a car with a completely different colour and model. Making things worse, he confirmed that his own car had been parked for months and had not been driven during the time period in question.
On the Excise Department’s website, he discovered that the Mehran in question was actually registered to Moonlight Industries, not to him. Apparently, the e-challan camera has misread the number plate and accidentally flagged Sattar’s car instead of the actual violator’s.
Steps Taken by Faisal Sattar to Resolve the Issue
- Visit to the Traffic Police Facilitation Center:
In an attempt to resolve the issue, Sattar visited the Traffic Police Facilitation Center. He was informed that his case would need to be reviewed by a committee before any decision could be made.
- Mental and Financial Strain Due to an Unjust Fine:
Despite having all the necessary evidence to clear his name, Sattar expressed significant stress over the ordeal. As a private-sector employee, he is concerned about the mental toll and the time-consuming bureaucratic process required to rectify the mistake.
Growing Concerns Over E-Challan System Accuracy in Karachi
- Flaws in the Automated E-Challan System
Many residents have raised concerns about the growing number of unjustified fines issued due to errors in the e-challan system. This incident further questions the reliability of automated traffic enforcement technology in Karachi.
- Potential for More Bureaucratic Hassles:
Sattar fears that clearing his name could involve multiple trips to various government offices, adding unnecessary stress and inconvenience to his daily life.
The Need for an Improved E-Challan System in Karachi
Faisal Sattar’s experience highlights serious flaws in Karachi’s automated traffic enforcement system and raises important questions about its accuracy and reliability. As more residents face similar issues, it is becoming increasingly clear that improvements are needed to ensure that the system works fairly for all citizens.
