Karachi Police Roll Out Traffic Strategy for Busy Eid Markets

105

With Eid shopping activity picking up across the city, the Karachi Traffic Police has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan to reduce congestion and maintain smooth traffic flow near major markets.

According to Traffic DIG Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, additional traffic personnel and section officers have been deployed at busy commercial areas and shopping centres across different districts. The special duty schedule will run daily from 7 pm until late at night, when shopping activity usually peaks.

Officials say the move aims to manage the expected surge in vehicles as residents head out for last-minute Eid shopping.

Rickshaw and Taxi Restrictions on Key Roads

Under the new plan, authorities have placed restrictions on rickshaws, taxis, and some commercial vehicles in several congested areas of the city.

Rickshaws will not be allowed on the following routes:

  • From Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittehad Signal
  • From Fawara Chowk to the General Post Office Karachi
  • From Singer Chowk to Zeb-un-Nisa Street

Additional restrictions will apply from Tibet Chowk to Eidgah Chowk up to Jama Cloth Market, as well as on Rashid Minhas Road.

Alternate Routes for Commercial Traffic

Traffic police have also designated alternative routes for commercial vehicles to ease pressure on busy roads.

Vehicles arriving from Drigh Road will be diverted through the Millennium Bridge toward NIPA Chowrangi. However, rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed to pass under the bridge.

If congestion builds near Hyderi Market, commercial traffic from North Karachi will be diverted from Five Star Chowrangi toward Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan and Landi Kotal Chowrangi.

Meanwhile, motorists travelling from M. A. Jinnah Road are advised to use alternative routes through Preedy Street and Saddar Dawakhana.

Additional Diversions Across the City

Drivers coming from the KPT Underpass are advised to travel toward Clifton Bridge via Bath Island.

In the Clifton area, motorists can use alternative routes such as:

  • Teen Talwar
  • Racecourse
  • Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road

Vehicles coming from the Sohrab Goth area, particularly from Sajan Kanta, have been directed to use Sarfaraz Ghouri Road.

Crackdown on Illegal Parking

Authorities also announced that illegal rickshaw and taxi stands near supermarkets and markets will not be allowed during the Eid shopping season to prevent traffic bottlenecks.

Commercial vehicle drivers have been instructed to follow alternative routes through Shahrah-e-Millat and Sarwar Shaheed Road when travelling toward major commercial zones such as Regal Chowk and Tibet Centre.

Public Asked to Cooperate

DIG Shah urged citizens to cooperate with traffic authorities and follow the announced plan to ensure smooth traffic flow across the city during the busy Eid shopping period.

Officials believe the additional deployment and route adjustments will help reduce congestion and make travel easier for shoppers in the coming days.
