Karachi Traffic Police to Deploy Robots for Issuing e-Challans
KARACHI — The Karachi Traffic Police has announced that it will begin deploying robots next month to issue electronic challans under the city’s e-track traffic enforcement system.
The initiative aims to modernize Karachi’s traffic management and reduce manual monitoring on congested roads.
Robots to Patrol Key City Routes
Speaking at an event Peer Mohammad Shah, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police Karachi, said the robots will operate on major routes, including Saddar and Tariq Road.
These autonomous units will move at approximately 20 km/h, scanning vehicles and automatically issuing challans to those violating parking or traffic regulations.
The system will allow officers to focus on broader traffic management tasks while maintaining strict, technology-backed monitoring.
E-Track System Already Showing Results
The initiative builds on the existing e-track system, which has already issued nearly 50,000 e-challans within the past two weeks.
Officials say that the upcoming robot deployment will expand coverage and enable real-time enforcement of traffic laws across Karachi’s busiest areas.
Expected Benefits for Commuters
Authorities expect the robot-based system to enhance operational efficiency, improve compliance, and reduce corruption by minimizing direct human involvement in enforcement.
