Kia’s Record-breaking Q1 Sales with Sportage Leading the Charts
Kia has started 2026 at full pace. In its official global sales release, the automaker said it sold 779,169 vehicles worldwide in the first quarter of 2026, its highest-ever January-to-March result. March alone contributed 285,854 units, up 2.7% year-on-year. In the U.S., Kia also posted its best-ever first quarter, with 207,015 units sold, and the Sportage led the brand with 44,704 units, ahead of the Telluride’s 35,928.
A Record Quarter, Not A Routine One
These are not routine growth numbers. Kia’s first-quarter global total marks a new benchmark for the brand, while the U.S. arm also delivered its strongest Q1 on record.
That matters because it shows Kia is still growing in a market where buyers are becoming more selective, especially when it comes to SUVs, hybrids, and EVs.

Kia’s SUV Trio Led The Charge
Kia’s own release shows that SUVs remained at the center of its performance in March 2026.
The Sportage, Seltos, and Sorento were the brand’s top-selling models globally, with the Sportage leading at 49,196 units, followed by the Seltos at 26,422 and the Sorento at 25,942.
That gives the record quarter more context: Kia is not just growing, it is doing so on the back of SUV demand, with the Sportage once again emerging as the standout nameplate.
Sportage Did The Most Heavy Lifting
The standout name here was the Sportage, making it the company’s best-selling model in that market.
The Telluride also had its best quarter yet at 35,928 units, but it still finished behind the Sportage.
Kia also stated that, apart from the Sportage in the SUV segment, the Carnival (MPV) and the K4 (Compact Sedan) each set new first-quarter sales records in their segments.
For a model that already carries strong recall in several markets, that is a pretty loud statement.

Hybrids Are Climbing, And EVs Are Still In The Plan
The bigger trend sits behind the headline number. Kia said its U.S. hybrid sales rose 73% in the first quarter, while electrified models overall were up 30% year-on-year. That lines up with the company’s broader strategy as well.
At its 2026 CEO Investor Day, Kia said it plans to expand to 13 hybrid models and 14 EV models by 2030, targeting 1.1 million annual hybrid sales by the end of the decade.
In other words, Kia is not backing away from EVs, but hybrids are clearly becoming a bigger part of the bridge to full electrification.

Why This Story Will Sound Familiar In Pakistan
Pakistani readers will probably recognize the pattern before they even see the numbers. Kia has been in the local market long enough for the Sportage badge to become one of the brand’s most visible nameplates here.
In fact, Sportage has been Kia Pakistan’s top-selling model since its CKD launch in 2019. So when the Sportage comes out as Kia’s sales star internationally, it does not feel distant or surprising. It feels familiar.

Key Takeaway
Kia’s first quarter of 2026 tells a clear story: the brand is growing, the Sportage is still doing serious volume, and hybrid demand is rising fast.
For now, this is a sales milestone rather than a Pakistan-market announcement, so any future local product or powertrain move will still need separate confirmation.
But if Kia keeps leaning further into hybrids while the Sportage keeps leading the charge, this is one trend Pakistani buyers will be watching closely.
