Kia Set to Unveil High-Performance EV Sedan in 2025
With depleting energy sources, world’s auto industry seems highly inclined towards green technology. Following the other car makers, Korean car giant ‘Kia’ has also unveiled some major plans translating what they carry in their EV lineup.
Kia intends to leverage its progress in electric vehicle (EV) development and introduce a high-performance executive sedan to build on its momentum. The upcoming EV, dubbed ‘GT1,’ is expected to target the mid-size segment and serve as a successor to the Stinger.
Rumor has it that the GT1 will fall into the E-segment category, putting it in direct competition with the Tesla Model S and Mercedes Benz EQE. Kia plans to utilize the new eM platform and equip the GT1 with a 113.2-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Notably, this battery pack will be larger than those found in the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Tesla Model S, and Kia EV9, enabling the GT1 to achieve a range of 800 kilometers on a full charge.
it is pertinent to mention that Hyundai and Kia have not officially confirmed any details regarding this. There are expected to be multiple models of the GT1, each offering different powertrain outputs. It is speculated that there will be both single and dual-motor variants, with the range-topping model rumored to deliver 603 horsepower. If this turns out to be true, it would make the GT1 the most powerful production vehicle ever produced by Kia, surpassing the EV6 GT.
Furthermore, Hyundai-Kia’s innovative architecture is expected to be utilized beyond just the GT1 project. The modularity of this architecture is rumored to surpass that of the E-GMP platform.
Kia is reportedly planning to continue offering its current electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles until 2025, which aligns with the anticipated timeline for the arrival of this new Kia model. Although Kia has no long-term plans for producing plug-in hybrid vehicles, the existing high demand for such vehicles is expected to keep them in the lineup for the time being.
