KP Unveils New Safety Regulation for Truck And Bus Drivers
PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a new transport regulation requiring two drivers on board for long-haul buses, trucks, and trailers.
The measure, officials said, is intended to curb fatigue-induced accidents and improve passenger safety on some of the country’s busiest intercity routes. Vehicles covering journeys of 365 kilometers or more will now fall under the rule.
Routes from Peshawar to major cities such as Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta are among those where compliance will be mandatory.
Traffic police and other enforcement bodies have been instructed to strictly monitor vehicles strictly, ensuring the new safety standard is upheld.
Transporters found violating the law will be liable to pay fines ranging from Rs5,000 to Rs10,000. Authorities believe the initiative will not only reduce risks for passengers but also set a new precedent in regulating long-distance travel across the province.
