Lahore Police to Deploy AI and Drones to Tackle Traffic Jams
Lahore — August 22, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major initiative to combat Lahore’s persistent traffic congestion by adopting a Japanese-modeled policing system equipped with AI-powered monitoring tools.
The system will rely on infrared and ultrasonic technology to track vehicle movement and identify congestion hotspots in real time. According to the CM, the move aims to streamline traffic flow in one of Pakistan’s busiest urban centers, where traffic jams cost commuters both time and fuel.
In addition, Lahore Police will deploy drones for aerial monitoring to detect choke points and reroute traffic as needed. This will allow quicker response during peak hours, accidents, or road closures, ensuring smoother mobility across the provincial capital.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the project is part of the government’s broader plan to modernize policing with advanced technology, bringing Punjab’s system closer to international standards.
If implemented effectively, the initiative could significantly reduce Lahore’s gridlock issues and set a precedent for other cities across Pakistan struggling with urban traffic management.
