Lahore Traffic Police to Auction Vehicles Over Unpaid E-Challans

Lahore’s City Traffic Police (CTP) has launched a strict crackdown on chronic traffic violators with unpaid e-challans, announcing that vehicles with fines exceeding their market value will be auctioned.

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Atar Wahid, in a statement issued on the social media channels of City Traffic Police Lahore, 129 motorcycles have already been seized, each with accumulated fines exceeding their worth.

In some cases, fines have reached up to Rs. 374,000, while one impounded car carried a value of over Rs. 1.5 million in pending challans.

Legal Framework for Auctions

The CTO stated that the move is a legal requirement under the new legislative framework for e-challans approved by the provincial cabinet. Once the auction process is finalized, public notices will be issued in newspapers, and the generated revenue will be deposited into the government treasury.

E-Challan Enforcement Grows Stronger

He added that the entire traffic enforcement system is shifting to e-challans, with over 60–70% of current enforcement already digitized, reducing reliance on manual challans.

The Safe City cameras are recording violations around the clock, including non-compliance with seatbelts, mobile phone use while driving, lane violations, and overspeeding.

First Phase of Auctions to Begin Soon

The first phase of auctions will soon begin with the seized motorcycles, setting a strong precedent for traffic law enforcement in Lahore.
