Launch Date Announced for Islamabad–Rawalpindi Rail Service

The federal government is preparing to launch a high-speed rail service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, a project designed to reduce travel time, alleviate traffic congestion, and provide a cost-effective commuting option for residents of the two cities.

Officials have confirmed that the service is scheduled to launch on March 23, with trains running on the existing track for the initial phase. The route will link Margalla Railway Station in Islamabad to Saddar Railway Station in Rawalpindi, enabling passengers to complete the journey in roughly 20 minutes.

The decision was made following a high-level meeting held at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi co-chaired the session, which also brought together Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, senior representatives from Pakistan Railways, the CDA, the Rawalpindi Commissioner’s Office, and various law enforcement agencies.
