LHC Directs Priority Fitness Stickers for Heavy Vehicles

Lahore, known for its air pollution and extreme weather, is starting to take serious steps to tackle these problems. Recently, the Lahore High Court (LHC) took action by ordering the environment department to give priority to issuing fitness stickers for heavy vehicles. These stickers are given to vehicles that pass an emission test, helping to reduce harmful air pollution. This is especially important for Lahore during the smog season, when air quality becomes dangerous.

Fitness Stickers for Heavy Vehicles

The court’s order to prioritize fitness stickers for heavy vehicles aims to ensure that only vehicles that meet emission standards can continue to operate. This will help reduce pollution, especially in the long run, by limiting the number of high-emission vehicles on the road.

The court also asked for a survey to check how well water treatment plants are working in factories. The goal is to make sure these plants are actually cleaning water and reducing pollution, not just operating on paper. The court wants real progress on pollution control and has asked for a detailed report by June 17.

In addition, the LHC showed concern about how people waste water. Despite the growing problem of water scarcity, many people in Lahore still use water carelessly. The court expressed disappointment about this and called for better water conservation practices.

No EPA Test, No Motorway Access

On another front, the Punjab Environment Protection Department (EPA) is working to control vehicle emissions. They are setting up emission testing booths along the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. Vehicles will be stopped at these booths to check if they pass emissions standards. Vehicles that fail won’t be allowed on the motorway, especially during the smog season.

These actions, along with the court’s orders, show that steps are being taken to improve the environment in Lahore. While there’s still much to be done, these measures give hope for a cleaner, healthier future. Everyone, from the government to the public, needs to work together to solve Lahore’s environmental problems.
