After the increase in petrol prices, transporters have raised the local fares by 10%. According to media reports, the fares in Karachi increased as the federal government announced new petroleum prices.

The new and increased rates will be applicable on local fares of all kinds of buses with and without air conditioning. This will make public transport pricier and maybe even unaffordable for several citizens of Karachi.

The federal government has increased the price of petroleum products to as high as rs. 13/liter. The new price of petrol is Rs. 272/liter after a hike of Rs. 5. Wheres, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) got hiked by Rs. 13/liter making its new price Rs. 293/liter. Kerosene oil also became more expensive with a price hike of Rs. 2.56, landing it at a price tag of Rs. 190.29.

This price hike has led to the inflation of local fares of transport in Karachi. Where the increase in the price of petrol has made local transport more expensive, the hiked price of diesel might lead to pricier consumer goods.
