Locally Assembled MG HS PHEV – A Detailed Review
The MG HS first made its mark in Pakistan in 2020 with the 1.5L turbo variant, and now it has taken a step forward with the introduction of the plug-in hybrid MG HS PHEV. Initially, MG tested the market by importing 200 Completely Built Units (CBUs) of the hybrid model (EHS) to assess its popularity.
After receiving a positive response, MG recently launched a locally assembled version of the HS PHEV, promising a full hybrid experience. MG claims this model is a “true hybrid,” combining impressive fuel economy with the power and torque that the Pakistani market asks for.
Power Figures
As Pakistan’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, the MG HS PHEV claims a fuel efficiency of 58 km/L. Thanks to its hybrid technology, which combines an electric motor with the engine, it delivers 280 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds.
Exterior
The MG HS PHEV stands out with its aggressive, sporty design. The front features a digital flaming grille in piano black, while matrix LED headlights with DRLs and an auto-dip function enhance visibility. Indicators integrated with mesh grilles contribute to the vehicle’s bold aesthetic.
From the side, the 18-inch wheels lend a strong, stable look. Moving to the rear, the car showcases 3D LED lights featuring 96 individual LEDs, a diffuser-style bumper, and an automatic boot function.
Interior
The interior, in a refined Monaco blue color, features a layout similar to previous MG models but with notable upgrades. The cabin is equipped with two large screens—a 12.1-inch digital cluster panel and a 10-inch infotainment screen. The improved interface ensures a smooth user experience without lag, providing key insights such as electricity consumption, battery levels, charging status, fuel average, and RPM.
Additionally, the hybrid SUV offers 11 advanced safety features, including speed recognition, adaptive cruise control, front and rear collision warnings, blind-spot monitoring, lane assistance, and a 360-degree camera. The interior also includes a modern gear lever, a push-start button, an electronic handbrake, and a sunroof to add a touch of openness and luxury.
Battery and Charging
The heart of the MG HS PHEV’s hybrid system is a 16.6 kWh battery, which enables a pure electric driving range of around 50 km per charge. Additionally, the car supports 3-level regenerative braking, a solid alternative to charging the built-in battery.

Undoubtedly, Elantra Hybrid is a welcome addition in vehicles inventory but the point here is nowadays 10 Million amount seems peanut, especially in last two years. Moreover, paying extra by 2.5 Million at the face of fuel savings doesn’t make any sense either. As of now, No EVs or Hybrids but gasoline ⛽️ are to be preferred, till availability of charging stations 🚉 and decline in prices.
