New 5th Gen Toyota Prius Is Open for Sale in Japan
2Toyota debuted the new Toyota Prius in Japan in November of last year, and now the car is available for sale in the country. The company launched a hybrid variant of the new Toyota Prius powered by Parallel hybrid (HEV) technology, developed under the “Hybrid reborn” platform, whereas the plug-in variant is expected to be unveiled in March this year. The company plans to sell 4300 units a month of the car in Japan.

Power & Variants
The company launched 4 variants of the new Prius with 2 powertrains with 8 trim levels, each with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive in the domestic market. Meaning two variants with 1.8L engines and others with 2.0L.
- 1.8L engine with front-wheel drive
- 1.8L engine with all-wheel-wheel drive
- 2.0L engine with front-wheel drive
- 2.0L engine with all-wheel drive
Highlighting the power of the new car, it takes less than 7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.
Fuel Economy
The 1.8-liter variants offer a fuel average of 32.6Km/l whilst 2.0L variants come with 28.6 km/l. Toyota has disclosed that 2.0L flaunts the output of 144kW (195hp) – 1.6 times more than what the current model offers.
Price
Coming to the price of all variants of the car. Front-wheel drive variant with 1.8L comes with a price tag of 20.8 thousand dollars (PKR 4572334 lac), whereas all-wheel variant with the same power costs in Japan 22.5 thousand dollars (PKR 5143875.75 lac). However, the price of the 2.0L variant with FWD of Prius started from 24200 dollars (PKR 5532524 lac) whilst the AWD variant with 2.0L engine is priced at 30,000 dollars (PKR 6858501 lac).
