Get Your International Driving License at Lahore Airport
Lahore City Traffic Police Department has inaugurated a kiosk at Allama Iqbal International Airport, becoming the first facility of its kind at any Pakistani airport to issue international driving licenses (IDL) swiftly.
This service was introduced in response to numerous requests from travellers, aiming to save them the inconvenience of visiting distant traffic police offices. Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), DIG Athar Waheed, formally opened the kiosk on Monday after extensive consultations and approval from the department’s legal advisors. This facility will expedite the process, allowing license holders to secure an international permit within minutes.
CTO Waheed stated that the Pakistani IDL is valid across 132 countries, significantly simplifying driving abroad for Pakistani travellers. The IDL complies with international traffic standards as outlined in multiple United Nations conventions, including those from 1926, 1949, and 1968.
Countries recognising Pakistan’s international license include the UK, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Russia, the USA, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Mexico, Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, and numerous others.
The CTO added that this step aligns with Chief Minister’s recent initiatives aimed at digitizing public services to enhance convenience and efficiency. The kiosk, staffed around the clock by highly trained personnel skilled in information technology and modern policing techniques, will ensure continual improvement based on user feedback.
He also indicated plans to establish similar kiosks at other international airports nationwide, responding proactively to citizen input and increasing demand.
