Here’s the quick table for an overview:
| Vehicle Category | Production (YoY Change) | Sales (YoY Change) | Trend |
| Passenger Cars | 52.00% | 46.00% | Up |
| LCVs, SUVs, Jeeps & Pickup Trucks | 24.00% | 36.00% | Up |
| Trucks | 88.00% | 88.00% | Up |
| Buses | 30.00% | 48.00% | Up |
| Two/Three Wheelers | 31.00% | 31.00% | Up |
| Tractors | -17% | -21% | Down |
Passenger Cars Drive the Growth
The passenger car segment witnessed a massive surge, with production volume jumping by a remarkable 52% compared to the corresponding period last financial year. Sales followed a similar upward trajectory, rising 46%.
Commercial Vehicles and LCVs Follow Suit
The positive trend extended to Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), SUVs, Jeeps, and Pickups, whose production and sales increased by 24% and 36%, respectively.
The heavy commercial sector also posted impressive numbers; truck production and sales skyrocketed by a massive 88%. Similarly, the bus segment reported a 30% rise in production alongside a solid 48% boost in sales.
Two and Three-Wheelers Maintain Momentum
The two and three-wheeler segment, a crucial indicator of middle-class purchasing power and urban mobility, also performed well. Both production and sales for this category increased by an identical 31%.
Tractors See a Decline
In contrast to the overall industry’s growth, the agricultural sector’s automotive needs declined. Farm tractors were the only category to report negative growth, with production falling 17% and sales 21% year-on-year.
Despite the slump in tractor sales, the overwhelming majority of the automotive sector has started the year on a very strong note, pointing to recovering consumer confidence and improved manufacturing stability in the country.
